Pre-election campaign for the upcoming presidential elections in April has started in South Ossetia

The Resolution of the Parliament of South Ossetia on the date of presidential elections in April 10, 2022 was published in Saturday issues of the state print media. The document was placed on the front pages of the newspapers "South Ossetia" and "Khurzaerin" dated January 22, 2022. The procedure for nominating candidates will be determined by the Central Election Commission.

It should be reminded that the corresponding resolution was adopted at the meeting of the Parliament session on Friday, January 21.

"After the official publication of the Parliament's resolution on setting the date of the elections, political parties and initiative groups have exactly one month to nominate their candidates, it is necessary to prepare the necessary package of documents for submission to the Central Election Commission," the Central Election Commission of the Republic has specified.

A citizen of the Republic who is at least 35 years old, who speaks the state languages ​​and has permanently resided in the territory of South Ossetia for the last 10 years preceding the day of registration, can be elected president.

The current president of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov, said the day before that the election campaign should not affect the work of the ministries and departments.

“We all understand that the election campaign has actually begun, but it should not be a reason to slow down the pace of work. The government has done a lot, and I want you to continue to focus on the existing programs aimed at developing the Republic. No political moments should prevent this,” the President said.

The head of state also spoke about the part of the deputy corps that had initiated the removal of the President from power.

“This whole situation is aimed at creating tension in society. At the same time, I want to emphasize that we have done a lot to look a person straight in the eye, and no political moments will change the vector of development of our Republic,” he added.

In accordance with paragraph 10 of Article 61 of the Constitution (Basic Law) of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia resolved:

. The election of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia is scheduled for April 10, 2022.

2. To publish this Resolution in the mass media.

3. This Resolution will ll enter into force from the date of its adoption.
