Foreign Minister of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev met in Sukhum with Prime Minister of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab during a working visit to the republic.
According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, representatives of the two countries exchanged views on the current state of bilateral relations, noted with satisfaction the growing contacts between the fraternal countries, interaction in a number of areas of cooperation.
"The parties stated the full support by South Ossetia and Abkhazia of the actions of the Russian Federation in relation to the recognized republics of Donbass and the special military operation of the Russian Federation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. They informed each other about measures to support the peoples of the Donetsk and the Lugansk People's Republics, including in the issue of providing humanitarian support to refugees who arrived in South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
The meeting was also attended by Ambassador of South Ossetia to Abkhazia Oleg Botsiev, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia Sergey Tadtaev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia Irakli Tuzhba.
During the working visit, Dmitry Medoev also visited the Abkhaz State University, where he met with the rector Aleko Gvaramia.
Gvaramia has noted that the Abkhazian, South Ossetian and Artsakh universities once created the Association of Universities of Self-Determined States, which, after being recognized by Russia and a number of other countries, became known as the Association of Universities of Newest States.
The rector also spoke about plans to convene a congress of the Association's members in early March, which had to be postponed due to the events in Ukraine.
For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia thanked the rector of the ASU for the meeting and warm welcome and stressed that South Ossetia would be further developing fraternal relations with Abkhazia in all areas, including education.
Dmitry Medoev also outlined a useful component of the Pride of Abkhazia project, aimed at finding out and supporting talented youth, and supported the launch of a similar format in South Ossetia.
The parties noted the established strong ties between the universities of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and expressed mutual interest in developing joint programs and projects, exchanging experience, as well as holding various joint forums.
In Sukhum, following the talks, a joint press conference was also held by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries Dmitry Medoev and Inal Ardzinba.
