116 years since the death of the great poet: Kosta Khetagurov has been honored in South Ossetia

A commemorative event dedicated to the Death Day of the great Ossetian poet, the founder of the Ossetian literature Kosat Levanovich Khetagurov was held in Tskhinval on Friday.

The event was attended by the staff of the Ministry of Culture of South Ossetia, headed by Minister Zhanna Zasseyeva, representatives of the city's libraries, residents of the Republic.

After laying flowers at the monument to Kosta Khetagurov in the center of the capital, those present honored the memory of the poet with a minute of silence.

As noted by Zhanna Zasseeva with interview with the IA “Res”, on the day of the death of the great Kosta - April 1, the events are being held throughout the Republic.

“If people remember, it means they are alive. As long as we live, we will pass on respect and reverence for this talent to our children and grandchildren. It is a pity that today we are talking about him in the past tense. Kosta is alive if we read his poems, works…”, she has noted.

Kosta Khetagurov is an outstanding Ossetian poet, journalist, satirist, publicist, educator, ethnographer, artist, playwright, public and political figure, fighter for the freedom of his people.

Kosta Khetagurov died on April 1 (March 19 according to the old style), 1906, after a long illness, on April 4 (March 22) he was buried in the village. Ossetian (Laba). Later, the poet was reburied in North Ossetia-Alania. Now Kosta Khetagurov rests on the territory of the Ossetian Church in Vladikavkaz.
