A referendum on the entry of South Ossetia into Russia may be held after applying to the Supreme Court of the Republic and receiving an appropriate opinion, President of the Republic of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov said in the interview with RIA Novosti.
“For the time being, in legal terms, we must apply to the Supreme Court, it must answer us, and only after that begin the procedure for preparing for the referendum and setting the date for the referendum.
We must understand that joining the Russian Federation and immediately unifying the Ossetians will not happen, this is not allowed by the law. When South Ossetia is already part of Russia, the processes of unification of Ossetia should go on. We have examples of the unification of the regions of Russia, referendums should be held in two regions of the Russian Federation,” the President said.
It should be noted that last week the head of the South Ossetian state came up with an initiative to join South Ossetia to Russia.
