The second round of the presidential elections in South Ossetia will take place presumably on May 8, the head of the \Republic's CEC, Emilia Gagieva, told the “Res” news agency

“The date was determined based on the fact that April 24 is a religious holiday Easter, there is a decree of President Leonid Tibilov from 2015, in which this date is defined as a holiday. The following Sunday after the 24th is also a holiday in accordance with the calendar of holidays - this is May 1st. In the Constitutional Law "On Basic Guarantees of Electoral Rights and the Right to Participate in a Referendum of Citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia" Art. 10, it is written that elections cannot be called on a holiday, so the date is shifted to May 8,” the head of the CEC said.

She has also noted that in the next two days it is planned to announce the final results of the presidential elections, which took place on April 10.

“Earlier, we announced the data that was obtained as a result of processing 95 percent of the protocols. As for the remaining five, the figures are known to us, but we cannot announce them until we receive the original protocols of precinct commissions from Moscow and Sukhum. As soon as we receive them, the results will be made public and published in the media. The protocols are already on the way, and we expect to receive them, possibly even tomorrow," Gagieva said.

She has also noted that it is technically impossible to hold the second round of elections earlier, since it takes time to print ballots and new stamps for voters to put in their passports, as this is required by law.

The incumbent head of the Republic, Anatoly Bibilov, and the leader of the Nykhas political party, Alan Gagloev, will take part in the second round.

Gagloev, according to preliminary data, after processing 95% of the protocols receives 36.9% of the votes, Bibilov is gaining 33.5% of the votes. The final voter turnout was 82.07%.
