Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko instructed her Deputy Konstantin Kosachev to prepare an order on sending a delegation of senators to monitor the second round of the presidential elections in South Ossetia.

"I proceed from the fact that you will continue this observation work in the second round. I ask Konstantin Iosifovich Kosachev to prepare the appropriate order," Matviyenko said, addressing her colleagues at the plenary meeting on Wednesday, TASS reported.

This is how she reacted to the message of Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, who led the chamber's delegation to monitor the presidential elections in the Republic, held on April 10. According to him, the voting was held at a high organizational level in compliance with generally recognized standards of the electoral law. "We visited eight polling stations, including those in the remote areas of South Ossetia. We were at the opening of voting. We were watching the counting of votes. The competition was very fierce. We did not find any violations during voting, especially falsifications," said the senator.

Earlier it was reported that the second round of elections might be scheduled for May 8. Last Sunday in South Ossetia, the voting took place in the presidential elections, the elections were recognized successful. According to preliminary data, after processing 95% of the protocols, Alan Gagloev receives 36.9% of the votes, Anatoly Bibilov (33.5%), Alexander Pliev (11.9%), Garry Muldarov (8.9%), Dmitry Tasoev (2, eight%). 1.8% of voters voted against all of them. Bibilov and Gagloev will take part in the second round.

The candidate who receives more than half of the votes is considered elected. If three or more candidates participate in the elections, but none of them receives the required number of votes, a second round of voting is held within two weeks. It involves two candidates who received the largest number of votes in the first round. The winner is determined by a simple majority of votes. To recognize the second round of elections successful, more than 30% of the voters included in the voting lists must take part in the voting. The ballots provide an opportunity to vote against all candidates.
