South Ossetia is closely following the events taking place in Georgia, which cause serious concern, said Yegor Kochiev, Deputy Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy for Post-Conflict Settlement.
“We understand that the draft law that caused these events is being used as a pretext for accusing the Georgian authorities of being pro-Russian, destabilizing the situation and calling for revenge on South Ossetia and Abkhazia. We do not entertain illusions that Georgia will finally recognize the fact of aggression against South Ossetia, repent, and start building good-neighborly relations with us, but at the same time we hope that common sense will prevail there," the Deputy Plenipotentiary noted.
In the meantime, according to Kochiev, it is necessary to strengthen control over our borders along their entire length. He has added that the competent authorities are closely monitoring the situation along the entire state border between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia and are in constant contact via a hotline with the EU Monitoring Mission as part of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism.
