A rally in memory of the victims of the Ered tragedy took place on Saturday at the mass grave in the capital's cemetery in South Ossetia.
The rally was attended by representatives of the leadership of South Ossetia, ministries and departments, relatives of the victims of the tragedy, and members of the public.
Opening the rally, director of the National Museum of South Ossetia Merab Zasseev has noted that March 18, 1991 entered the modern history of Ossetia as a bleeding wound inflicted by the Georgian neo-fascists.
“For 32 years now, today's date has been causing the deepest sorrow in our hearts,” Zasseev said. - March 18, 1991 was the last day for 12 of our fellow citizens. Death is different, but what was done to them falls out of the number of human deeds.
He added that "every Ossetian will remember the names of the innocently killed and sovereign Ossetia that has risen to its feet will be the best memory for those who laid down their lives for it."
First Deputy Chairman of the Government of South Ossetia Alan Dzhioev addressed those present on behalf of the President and Government of the Republic, noting that the recent history of Ossetia is full of tragic events.
“Thousands and thousands of people are listed missing, wounded and killed, hundreds of burned villages - this is our historical memory,” said Dzhioev.
He noted that "the events that took place on March 18, 1991 are our historical memory."
“12 innocent victims of the Georgian neo-fascism have not sunk into oblivion, we will never forget about them. These victims are crimes against humanity, and we must talk about it, they do not have a statute of limitations, this is our position, and we will always convey this position,” he said.
The Chairman of the Union of Defenders of Ossetia, MP Amiran Dyakonov has noted that people of South Ossetia are marking a sad date today, which has left a deep wound in the souls and hearts of Ossetians.
“The ideology of the Georgian fascism has done everything possible to eradicate the people of South Ossetia from their historical land,” Dyakonov said. - We are faced with the fact that there is the ideology of the Georgian fascism, which does not stop at anything, at any atrocities, in order to achieve its goals. We must always remember this; it must be in our cultural code.
Dyakonov has noted that South Ossetia has been historically struggling with the ideology of fascism, nationalism, which is aimed at eradicating the people of South Ossetia.
“And in this struggle, we need to remember those tragedies and historical dates, and in full honor the people who became the victims of the ideology of the Georgian fascism,” he added.
During the mourning rally, the Chairman of the Committee of the families of the lost and missing "Memory", the wife of one of the 12 killed men, Iosif Doguzov, Zarina Tedeeva, made a speech.
“For 32 years, our pain has not subsided, it will never be forgotten. As our people were fighting against fascism, so now they continue to fight against it in Ukraine, she has noted.
Tedeeva expressed her gratitude to the citizens who came to honor the memory of the innocent victims of the tragedy.
“Thanks to everyone who came, who remembers…”, she has concluded.
