Issues of the missing were discussed on Tuesday during a regular meeting within the framework of the Tripartite Coordination Mechanism, held in the village of Ergnet.
The negotiations were attended by representatives of South Ossetia, the Russian Federation, Georgia, as well as representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
South Ossetia was represented at the meeting by Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights Inal Tasoev and Deputy Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy for Post-Conflict Resolution Egor Kochiev.
According to Inal Tasoev, during the meeting, a detailed discussion took place of the actions that were taken by the parties in the search for missing persons since the last meeting, held in September 2022, among them the installation of anonymous boxes in border villages, the collection of biological control samples from relatives of the missing, building, strengthening and expanding the capacity of local forensic services.
In addition, during the discussion it was noted that the main problem during the search remains the lack of information on possible burial sites where excavations and exhumations can be carried out.
“In this regard, the parties need to make more efforts to contact potential witnesses and eyewitnesses, as well as work with other possible sources of information.
Plans and further actions were also outlined, which the parties will take over the coming months,” said Inal Tasoev.
The next meeting of the coordinating mechanism is scheduled for autumn.
