On May 8, 2022, Alan Gagloev was elected President of South Ossetia. This happened in the context of an acute political crisis, which was preceded by street actions, a parliamentary crisis and public discontent.
At the beginning of the new week, the head of state will deliver a Message to the Parliament and the people of the Republic, in which he will sum up the work for the first year and outline further intentions. At the request of IA "Res", experts, in anticipation of this important political document, shared their vision of the further development of the country.
According to the deputy of the Parliament of the 5th convocation, candidate of philology, Professor Mira Tskhovrebova, the leadership of South Ossetia in today's realities is facing many tasks that need to be addressed, and they are feasible. “The Republic needs a program to ensure economic security,” Tskhovrebova said. “It is important to foresee all possible risks in case of food crises. For example, in winter, the Transcaucasian Highway is often closed due to avalanches. We must be prepared for such situations."
According to her, the Republic needs the development of production. “We should not import essential products from outside the Republic,” the expert believes. - Why can't we develop the poultry and dairy industries ourselves? In Soviet times, agricultural production was developing. Our Republic can even provide itself with flour, perhaps not fully, but at least partially. We need to create mini-factories, and the establishment of production means the creation of jobs and deductions to the budget.”
Tskhovrebova has noted that it is necessary to revive the village development program. She drew attention to the problem of shortage of personnel. “For example, there are few veterinarians in the Republic, not many people want to go into this profession, but there will always be at least one person a year whom the state can send for training and provide him with a living,” Tskhovrebova believes.
She has added that for the development of the state it is necessary to make efforts and set priorities, and it is necessary to use wisely the funds that are deducted from the Russian budget for the benefit of everyone, every inhabitant of the Republic. The professor expressed her hope that all these problems will be reflected in the Message.
Experts shared their vision of the results of the year of Gagloev's presidency and the further development of the country.
The advantages of Gagloev's presidency are obvious, expert Inal Pliev believes. “They can be judged by the steps already taken by the head of state and his team. Among them are not only a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but also participation in prestigious and promising exhibitions in Russia, the establishment of friendly ties with the regions of the North Caucasus. It is striking that since 2008, when the participation of Chechen fighters was of key importance in the liberation of South Ossetia, none of our presidents has met with the leader of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, against the backdrop of mutual culture days of South Ossetia and Chechnya. Meanwhile, our peoples have the richest culture. Our peoples are interested in each other's culture and sincerely want to be friends. This is evidenced by that full house and even excitement, a real hunt for tickets to the performances of Chechen teams. Cooperation with the republics of the North Caucasus will spiritually enrich us. It is necessary to build it up and transfer it to other areas,” said the expert Inal Pliev.
Already in the first year of his presidency, Gagloev established relations with the Russian entrepreneur, the owner of the BTK-4 Bolloev, which were tested in the previous period, said the economist Batradz Kokoev. “This also showed the constructive thinking characteristic of the new president, understanding of the priority of the interests of the Republic. This is important for our economy, for employment issues. Seeing this approach, other large Russian entrepreneurs will also see that they will benefit from following the example of Bolloev,” Kokoev said.
“The President and his entourage have repeatedly delivered humanitarian aid to our fighters who are protecting the civilian population from the military forces of those forces that seized power in the unconstitutional way and unleashed a war against the Russian-speaking regions,” said a volunteer who is taking part in the events in Ukraine, who arrived in Tskhinval on a visit. - In addition, the priorities of the leadership include strengthening the armed forces, resolving those issues that in the past have become a stumbling block for trusting relations between the government and society. This inspires optimism. We are defending the Motherland from external enemies, and an incomprehensible situation may arise if there is misunderstanding and discord within the Republic, which we all remember and don’t even want to talk about.”
“Great importance is attached to the provision of financial assistance to people who find themselves in a difficult life situation, both for health reasons and due to various natural and man-made disasters,” said a citizen who wished to remain anonymous, who just wrote an application for financial assistance in connection with a serious illness of a close relative.
“A year later, President Gagloev can be described as a serious politician who makes informed decisions, a young leader who gradually sets goals and moves towards their solution without any pomp,” said Zalina Parastaeva, a pedagogue.
Of course, not all the accumulated issues were resolved in a year. This also applies to inherited serious problems. But all of them are in the focus of attention of the leadership, which keeps its finger on the pulse of popular sentiment.
