President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev met with Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev, the press service of the head of state reports.
The meeting took place within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The main issue of the discussion was the reconstruction of the Lower Zaramag checkpoint, which is scheduled for 2023-2024.
Alan Gagloev has noted that for many years the population of the Republic of South Ossetia has been experiencing serious problems when crossing the Lower Zaramag checkpoint, and due to the increase in traffic flow, the problem has become even more acute.
“The long-standing problem with queues at the checkpoint is a topical and very worrying issue for us. I am grateful that this, no doubt, fateful issue has been discussed again and will be resolved. An increase in capacity on the road connecting two Ossetia, South Ossetia with Russia, will make it possible to remove the issue of traffic jams,” the President said.
For his part, Vitaly Saveliev has noted that the work on reconstruction of the checkpoint is underway and told about the deadlines for completing design and survey, construction and installation works.
Alan Gagloev and Vitaly Savelyev agreed to exchange up-to-date information on the progress of the work at the expert level.
Earlier, an official letter was sent to Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin from President of the Republic Alan Gagloev, after which a new impetus was given to the solution of the problematic issue - crossing the Lower Zaramag checkpoint.
