The first Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots in the interview with the radio station “Moscow Speaking” commented on the European Union’s decision to suspend the integration process of Georgia.

According to the EU Ambassador Pavel Gerchinsky, the stumbling block between Tbilisi and Brussels has become the law on foreign agents. In parallel with this, Brussels has frozen 30 million euro allocated for the Georgian Defense Ministry.

“In this situation, we must understand that we must behave respectfully with the government of Georgia and Georgia. We must understand that the fight with the current government of Georgia is happening precisely because Georgia has refused to repeat the fate of Ukraine and rush headlong into some kind of adventure, aggravating relations with neighboring Russia, which would be suicidal for Georgia,” he has noted.

Zatulin has added that there is no question “that we will refuse to recognize Abkhazia or South Ossetia as Ossetia in order to support the anti-Western forces in Georgia.”

“We recognized these countries. We are developing relations with them; we are in a military alliance with them. Despite everything that is happening in Georgia, this does not mean that in this situation we should not find maximum ways, reasons and motives to develop relations with Georgia and the Georgian people,” he has concluded.
