The State Security Committee of South Ossetia has established that the Georgian citizen Tamila (Tamara) Mearakishvili collaborated with the Georgian intelligence services. According to the agency's press service, she was recruited to conduct intelligence and subversive activities in the interests of Tbilisi.

As part of the criminal case opened under Article 276 of the Russian Criminal Code (espionage), the KGB continues to collect the evidence of Mearakishvili's illegal activities. According to the investigation, initially, she was involved in collecting and transmitting the information posing a direct threat to the security of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation.

"Mearakishvili transmitted the information regarding politicians, law enforcement officers, Russian military personnel, their locations, and the movement of the Russian military equipment. She secretly recorded conversations with the officials (secret agents) for subsequent use as compromising evidence, and established numerous intimate relationships with them for the purpose of gathering information and implementing subversive plans," the KGB statement reads.

Over the years, Mearakishvili expanded her reach and, at the initiative of the Georgian side, acted as a source of information for: - the Voice of America news agency;

- Radio "Echo of the Caucasus" (a project of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, added to the register of "undesirable organizations" by the decision of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022), is funded by the Western agencies and is aimed at subversive activities in the Russian Federation and the friendly states;

- The online media outlet "Caucasian Knot," also funded by the Western agencies and is aimed at subversive activities in the Russian Federation and the friendly states;

- The non-governmental organization "Kamara" (previously headed by Natia Panjikadze, a wife of the former Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania);

- The "Youth Center for Students and Young People," the organization created after the August 2008 events, was funded by the foreign organization "KOBERM";

- The foreign non-governmental organization "International Alert";

- Collaborated with the Tbilisi office of the Heinrich Böll Foundation, where she prepared a report on the topic: "Places Bilateral Omissions - Legal and Social Challenges in Gali and Akhalgori," subsequently published by the British Center for Social Justice, in which Mearakishvili openly lobbied for Georgia's interests in returning the "territories" "lost" in 2008, to its jurisdiction

At the initiative of the Georgian side, Mearakishvili repeatedly attended trainings and seminars organized by the non-governmental organizations abroad, where she allegedly represented the South Ossetian side, distorting the information about the internal political processes of the Republic of South Ossetia, thereby discrediting the sovereignty and independence of the South Ossetian state.

Every step taken by Tamila Mearakishvili was coordinated by the foreign intelligence services and represented exclusively the interests of the Georgian side.

The State Security Committee of the Republic of South Ossetia revealed her numerous contacts, including:

- The Head of the Georgian State Security Service Mdinaradze;

- Former Georgian Minister for Reintegration Affairs Zakareishvili P.;

- Former Georgian Defense Minister I. Alasania;

- Former Chairman of the Georgian Dream Party I. Garibashvili;

- Former head of the so-called "VAE" T. Bestaev;

And many other representatives of the Georgian intelligence services, the government, and administrative bodies.

The second stage of Mearakishvili's subversive activities was her infiltration of the government and administrative bodies, the legislative body, as well as the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of South Ossetia.

Mearakishvili devoted particular attention to establishing cooperation with the opposition parties and movements in the Republic of South Ossetia, with whom she was working in concert to destabilize the political situation in the Republic.

The Committee has established strong ties between Mearakishvili and a number of representatives of the opposition political parties.

Under the guise of a civil activist and "fighter for justice," Mearakishvili personally published the opposition-oriented publications on social media aimed at discrediting the Republic's state structure, its allied relations with the Russian Federation, and etc.

As a result, the opposition is currently actively supporting her on the media platforms "Bonvaernon," "Chrebaiy Khyaergaenaeg," and others. The arrest of T.A. Mearakishvili is being presented as the government crackdown on a human rights activist who has been seeking justice for many years.

The State Security Committee of the Republic of South Ossetia will bring to the end the criminal case against Tamila Mearakishvili. The accomplices located within and outside the Republic will be identified and held accountable.

The KGB of the Republic of South Ossetia draws the attention of anyone who has had contact with Mearakishvili and may have been involved in the illegal activities or used by the foreign intelligence services to the detriment of the security of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation to contact the State Security Committee via the hotline +7 (929) 810-43-24 and +7 (928) 488-49-16 (Telegram, WhatsApp), as well as by email: [email protected].

The KGB has reminded that citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia who promptly report their connections with representatives of the foreign intelligence services, structures, and organizations to the security agencies are exempt from criminal liability if their actions do not harm the security of the country.
