And the earth shuddered: on April 29, 1991, an earthquake occurred in South Ossetia

1991 is, really, one of the most difficult periods in the history of South Ossetia. The "black winter", the "bloody Christmas", the beginning of the energy blockade, which killed the old and newborn babies, was followed by an equally terrible spring, which in that year did not bode well for renewal. The tragedy in Ered, in Tsinagar – the Georgian fascism over and over again showed its inhuman appearance.

Anatoly Bibilov on the Dzau earthquake on April 29, 1991

President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov addressed his compatriots in connection with the next anniversary of the tragedy that took place in the Republic on April 29, 1991 - an earthquake in Dzau district.

“A destructive earthquake took place in South Ossetia 29 years ago. 59 people became the victims of the strongest tremors, dozens were injured, the Dzau district center along with all the infrastructure was destroyed. As a result of the natural disaster, the village of Khakhet turned out to be under a landslide.
