The 1st International Economic Forum will be a significant event in the economic life of South Ossetia and will help strengthen its position in the international arena. This was stated by Prime Minister of the Republic of South Ossetia Konstantin Dzhussoev during a working meeting with representatives of the organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the Forum.

As reported by the press service of the South Ossetian Cabinet, key issues related to the formation of its business program were carefully analyzed and discussed in preparation for the upcoming Forum.

From August 8 to 12, 2008, in response to military aggression, the Russian Federation was forced to conduct a military operation to force Georgia to peace.

On August 12, the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia was completely liberated from the Georgian occupiers.

Cooperation between Russia and South Ossetia in the defense, scientific, economic, cultural and educational spheres, as well as the deployment of units of the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of the Republic is a guarantor of lasting peace and stability for the country. A ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths at the placrs of the Republic's defenders' deaths during the Georgian aggression in August 2008 was held in South Ossetia.

The event was attended by the Republic's leadership headed by President Alan Gagloev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, representatives of the ministries, departments and law enforcement agencies, as well as the public.

The laying of flowers began at the shelled barracks of the Russian peacekeepers.
