On 23 April, a delegation of Transdnestria paid an official visit to the Republic of South Ossetia. The delegation was headed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Transdnestria Vladimir Yastrebchak. The purpose of the visit was to deliver congratulatory messages from the President of Transdnestria Igor Smirnov to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War and participate in awarding ceremony on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Victory Day.
On 24 April, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Transdnestria was received by Deputy Prime Minister of RSO Domenty Kulumbegov. During their meeting, the sides emphasized the important political and historical significance of the Victory over fascism. Domenty Kulumbegov on behalf of the leadership of the RSO expressed gratitude to the President of Transdnestria Igor Nikolaevich Smirnov for the attention to the South Ossetian veterans of the Great Patriotic War. The delegation members laid wreaths at the Memorial of War Glory at Heroes Alley and at the Monument for Motherland’s Defenders. After that, a meeting with the Head of Tskhinval city administration Gerasim Khugaev was held. A ceremony to award the veterans of Great Patriotic War living in Tskhinval and Dzau district has followed. War veterans residing in other districts of South Ossetia were also awarded.
