The war in August 2008. On the eve of invasion ...
During the year 2008, before the beginning of the invasion
of South Ossetia, the Georgian authorities had been actively
preparing for aggression. After a series of terrorist actscarried out by Georgian special services in the territory of
the Republic in July, became more frequent the shelling of
Tskhinval. Georgian troops had been preparing more active
for the war, the Georgian drones almost daily violated the
airspace of South Ossetia.
July, 25 2008 the commander of the Joint Peacekeeping
Forces Marat Kulakhmetov in his report to the co-chairs of
the Joint Control Commission and to the Head of the OSCE Mission in Georgia called the flights of the Georgian
pilotless planes as a gross violation of the previous
agreements of the Joint Control Commission.
However, on July 26 were fixed again illegal flights of
drones over the territory of South Ossetia. The span of the
Georgian spy plane at a height of 3.5 - 4 thousand meters
on the route from the west to the east was fixed by the
observation post of the North Ossetian peacekeeping
forces. At 22:30 the joint checkpoint of peacekeeping
forces "Tamarasheni" fixed the span of the aircraft on the
route from west to east at a height of 3 thousand meters.
Georgia started active using of drones to gather
intelligence a few more months before the start of the war.
From March to July 2008 over the zone of the Georgian-
Ossetian conflict, there were fixed more than thirty illegal
overflights of aircraft. Despite warnings from the South
Ossetian authorities, the Joint Peacekeeping Forces and
the repeated discussions of cases of flying of pilotless
aircraft at the meetings of the Joint Control Commission,
the frequency of the drone flights did not reduce - Georgia
continued preparing actively for military intervention in
South Ossetia...
