The document has been drafted and approved by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at a meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation on August 27, 2013. The Treaty is aimed at strengthening friendly relations with the Republic of South Ossetia.
The Treaty defines the border line between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia, which runs along the tops of the Greater Caucasus mountain range and is designated on the topographic map, which is an integral part of the Treaty.
