The Embassy of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation sent a press release to all the diplomatic missions accredited to the Russian Federation, as well as to the section of interests of Georgia at the Swiss Embassy, on the 11th anniversary of Russia's recognition of the independence of South Ossetia.
"On August 26, 2008, the Russian Federation, guided by the norms of international law and the will of the Ossetian people, recognized the state independence of the Republic of South Ossetia.
The act of recognition was the logical result of the heroic struggle of the South Ossetian people for freedom and independence. According to a press release issued by the press service of the Embassy. having proclaimed its statehood two decades before its recognition, all subsequent years South Ossetia in conditions of severe external pressure, experiencing inhuman difficulties and hardships, withstanding armed aggression and genocide by Georgia, terror and provocations, overcoming economic and information blockades.
In August 2008, Russia, as a great power, a reliable partner and guarantor of fulfilling its obligations, reaffirmed its high mission to maintain peace and security in the region.
“Over the past 11 years, a voluminous bilateral legal framework has been formed that covers all areas of cooperation. Under the agreements, Russia provides South Ossetia with large-scale assistance, implementing programs of socio-economic and cultural development, actively contributing to the formation of the Republic as a modern democratic state and strengthening international positions The fateful decision to recognize the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia created conditions for the safe development of the Ossetian people and its dignified and peaceful existence," the authors of the text note.
