The State Security Committee of South Ossetia reminds that the closure of the state border crossing points is a natural reaction of the Republic's leadership to the illegal setting up of a Georgian post in the vicinity of the settlement of Uista (Tsnelis) in Znaur district, the head of the Committee's press service Yekaterina Byazrova told IA "Res".
"Despite repeated calls by the South Ossetian authorities to remove the post, withdraw the armed units and de-escalate tension, over the past year the situation in the Tsnelis direction has not changed significantly in the direction of reducing tension," Byazrova said.
In this regard, the press secretary noted, and also in view of the real threat of uncontrolled penetration of coronavirus from the territory of Georgia, "restrictions on the functioning of border crossing points remain."
At the same time, in the interests of the residents of the Republic, the leadership of South Ossetia has taken a number of steps to ease the restrictive measures.
"At present, the appeal of each resident of the Republic of South Ossetia, feeling the need to visit the territory of Georgia or return to South Ossetia, is considered individually and in most cases, if there is a real need and exclusion of threats to the security of the Republic, positive decisions are made," she explained.
The KGB has noted that the actions of the leadership of the Republic of South Ossetia are aimed exclusively at protecting the rights and legitimate interests of the inhabitants of the Republic, and any information about total bans and disregard for the fate of people is only a means of propaganda for the Tbilisi regime.
