The memorial complex "Defenders of the Fatherland" will become not only a place of memory of the fallen heroes, but also forever immortalize their feat committed in the name of peace, happiness and well-being of the Republic's residents, said Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Sergey Nazarov at the opening of the Complex in Tskhinval

"Today is a significant day for every resident of the Republic of South Ossetia. We are opening a Memorial complex in honor of strong-minded people, real heroes, defenders of South Ossetia. They stopped bloodshed, ensured the security, sovereignty, stability and future of this country. This monument will become not only a symbol of resilience. and the revival of the Ossetian people, but also the willingness to lend a helping hand to friends in trouble. The Russian soldier was the first to respond to the trouble and came to the rescue, following his moral guidelines, "Nazarov said, quoted by the presidential and government press service.

According to him, the leadership of South Ossetia, headed by President Anatoly Bibilov, made a very important decision - to immortalize the memory in bronze.

"This is a kind of tribute to the past, without which it is impossible to build the future. Descendants should know. Therefore, the Russian side unconditionally supported the construction of this symbol of life. We should all remember the bloody pages of history, honoring the memory of the fallen. It is our moral duty," he stressed.

The memorial, in the creation of which the best architects and sculptors of North Ossetia took part, is a structure symbolizing respect and gratitude for the feats of the Ossetian and Russian soldiers who sacrificed themselves for the peace and safety of the citizens of South Ossetia.

On the pedestal are sculptures of soldiers: Ossetian and Russian, personifying the unity of Ossetian and Russian soldiers, warriors and Russian peacekeepers. The territory of the complex is divided into park and memorial zones. The path from the central entrance leading to the monument is lined with granite tiles, the area around the memorial is paved with paving stones. Benches were put up, lanterns were installed.

The facility was built as part of the Investment Program for Assisting the Socio-Economic Development of the Republic of South Ossetia for 2019.
