The South Ossetian Research Institute sent an appeal to UNESCO on the return of Scythian gold to the museums of Crimea, said director of the Vaneev South Ossetian Research Institute, archaeologist Robert Gagloity.

According to him, another appeal was made by the Ministry of Culture of South Ossetia.

“Any work that relates to our history is carried out in agreement with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of South Ossetia,” said Gagloity.

As noted by Gagloity, the issue of the Scythian gold was also raised at one of the meetings of the International Public Movement "Iry Styr Nykhas".

Robert Gagloitiy believes that the artifacts of the Scythian gold for the study of the history of Ossetia are of great importance and are of great value.

“The artifacts are the direct evidence of our culture, and all of them are the evidence of the continuity of the Scythian, Sarmatian and Alanian cultures. And we are talking not only about the golden exhibits, but also about others that are much more valuable in terms of works of art. For example, the same Scythian akinakes made of iron. Therefore, there is no need to talk about their significance for our culture,” he stressed.

As for the cooperation of South Ossetia with the museums of the Crimea, then, as noted by the director of the Vaneev South Ossetian Research Institute, "such attempts were made before 2008."

“For example, the head of the Bakhchisaray Museum, whom I met in Karachay-Cherkessia, expressed his willingness to cooperate, but so far there have been no real steps in this direction. There were prerequisites for establishing contacts with the Donetsk museums,” he said.

It should be reminded that the Supreme Court of the Netherlands received a cassation appeal from the Crimean museums against the decision of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal to transfer the Scythian gold to Ukraine, as reported by the press secretary of the court Vincent Hyuntink to RIA Novosti.

“Indeed, the complaint was sent. The next step is to start the preliminary administrative process. The date of the cassation hearing has not yet been determined,” RIA Novosti quotes Vincent Hyuntink.

Earlier it was reported that the Crimean museums had sent a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court of the Netherlands against the decision to transfer the Scythian gold to Ukraine.
