Deputies of the Parliament of South Ossetia supported the appeal of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the need to recognize the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic and will send their appeal to their Russian colleagues.
"Expressing the opinion of the absolute majority of the citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia supports the efforts of the State Duma to recognize the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic... Russia's recognition of the DPR and the LPR is a guarantee of the security and protection of peoples from external threats, a guarantee of strengthening peace and stability in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter," the appeal of the South Ossetian parliamentarians to the State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, adopted on Friday, reads.
As noted by First Vice Speaker of the Parliament Peter Gassiev, Russia's recognition of the DPR and the LPR is a guarantee of the security of the peoples of these Republics from external threats.
"The Republic of South Ossetia experienced the full horror of the invasion of punitive Georgian troops in South Ossetia both in the 1920s and in the 90s, as a result of which thousands of civilians were killed, tens of thousands were left homeless," Gassiev said.
He has noted that only protection of Russia, which forced Georgia to peace in 2008, prevented the complete extermination of the people of South Ossetia.
“My opinion is that Russia's recognition of the DPR and the LPR is a guarantee of peace and stability in these Republics, which will stop the death of civilians,” he said.
Gassiev added that knowing the importance of supporting other states, South Ossetia in 2014 recognized the DPR and the LPR as sovereign independent states.
South Ossetia is the only state that in 2014 was the first to recognize the independence of the DNR and the LNR.
