President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov said in the interview with RIA Novosti that his initiative to hold a referendum on the Republic's entry into the Russian Federation is not connected with a desire to score points before the elections.

The presidential elections in South Ossetia will be held on April 10. Earlier, Bibilov said that consultations are underway with the Russian Federation on the issue of holding a referendum on joining Russia. It can take place after April 10th.

"When we say that this is a historic event, a fateful event for the people of the Republic of South Ossetia, it should not be absolutely connected with the election campaign and with the presidential elections. Then there should be a clear understanding that this is a tool not for the April 10 elections, but for future people of the Republic of South Ossetia, and this understanding should be," he said.

According to Bibilov, "if the weapon had a political character for a specific date of the elections, then this is different, but we say, guys, let's really serious historical event, a fateful event for our people and for our republic, we will not tie it to the presidential elections, this is very important."

"Therefore, we do not take those steps and do not force events in order to be in time for the elections. Absolutely no one needs this," the President of South Ossetia noted.
