Foreign Minister of South Ossetia Dmitry Medoev received on Saturday the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic in Italy, Mauro Murgia, who had arrived in Tskhinval as an observer at the presidential elections.
According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, during the conversation, the main areas of work for the further development and strengthening of bilateral ties between South Ossetia and Italy were outlined. The Minister noted the importance of the presence of international observers at the presidential elections in South Ossetia, stressing that the Republic needs friends who will convey to the world the truth about the country and the legitimacy of the electoral processes taking place in South Ossetia.
At the end of the meeting, Mauro Murgia presented Dmitry Medoev with the flag of the Association of the Italian Anti-Fascist Partisans on behalf of the leadership of this organization.
Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev has also received Patrick Poppel, Secretary General of the Alexander Suvorov Institute in Vienna, who arrived in South Ossetia as the international observer at the presidential elections.
Medoev has stressed that the participation of international observers is important for South Ossetia, since this is one of the main conditions for holding open, transparent and legitimate elections in the electoral process.
In turn, Patrick Poppel thanked for the invitation as an observer of democratic processes, noting that he was well acquainted with the history of South Ossetia and the aspirations of its people. At the same time, Mr. Poppel stressed the importance of popularizing the history and culture of South Ossetia in the West and expressed his desire to represent the interests of the Republic of South Ossetia in Austria.
The Minister thanked him for his interest in the Republic and noted that this issue would be considered in the near future.
