South Ossetia made a historic choice on May 29, 1992, which determined its future, President of the Republic Alan Gagloev said on Tuesday at the solemn meeting dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Act of Declaration of Independence of the Republic.
"On May 29, 1992, our Republic met a significant date - the Day of the adoption of the Act on the proclamation of the Republic. It was a repeatedly weighed and carefully thought-out choice of our people. The document was adopted on the basis of the referendum held earlier, and became a key element in the legal registration of our statehood. South Ossetia made then the choice in favor of independence, although there were still many years before the recognition of the Republic," Gagloev said.
The event is taking place in the meeting room of the legislative body of the Republic, with the participation of the ex-president of the Republic Leonid Tibilov, representatives of the ministries and departments of the Republic, deputies of the first and subsequent convocations of the Parliament.
The meeting began with the ceremony of bringing in the national flag of the Republic, after which the national anthem of the Republic was played.
