Russia is supporting the further development of integration between South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, and active work will continue in this direction, Konstantin Kochiev, State Advisor to the President of South Ossetia, said at the press conference in Tskhinval, following the consultations between the South Ossetian delegation and officials in Russia.

“The referendum scheduled in South Ossetia, its very idea and the issue that was submitted to the referendum, were not agreed with anyone in Russia.

Serious political issues of this kind are authorized to be considered only by the President of Russia and the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation. The topic was not considered at any of these levels, and no agreements were made,” Kochiev said.

He noted that "at this stage, Russia is not ready to consider the decision that was being prepared for a referendum in South Ossetia."

“If in the future South Ossetia will hold consultations with the leadership of Russia, the discussion of such delicate issues is possible there.

Russia is supporting the further development of integration between South Ossetia and Russia, and active work will continue in this direction. And as we have been assured in the Russian Foreign Ministry, they will do everything to strengthen the international positions of the Republic, all-round support in all areas will continue,” the State Adviser has emphasized.
