Two violators of the state border of South Ossetia were handed over to the Georgian authorities after the trial and sentencing.

"Citizens of Georgia Gogichashvili Tamaz Zaurovich, born in 1973, resident of the village of Avlevi, Karelian municipality and Megrelishvili Zaza Nodarovich, born in 1971, resident of Tbilisi, were detained on December 15, 2021 in the vicinity of the village of Lopan, Znaur district for violating the regime of the state border of the Republic and smuggling tobacco products," the KGB of the Republic said in the message published in the telegram channel.

The KGB clarifies that on July 25, by the decision of the Znaur District Court, Gogichashvili and Megrelishvili were found guilty of committing crimes under Article 322 “Illegal crossing of the State Border” and Article 200.2 “Smuggling of tobacco products” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and sentenced to six years of suspended imprisonment.

On August 5, they were handed over to the Georgian authorities.
