These days will be marked the anniversary of the epoch-making events that affected geopolitical processes around the world, establishing a clear watershed from which the countdown of a new stage in international relations will begin, - said Yury Vazagov, head of the Information and Analytical Department of the South Ossetian Presidential Executive Office Yury Vazagov.

“The special military operation of the Russian troops to protect the People’s Republic of Donbass, to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine, in its significance and geopolitical consequences, goes far beyond the geographic boundaries of the post-Soviet space.

And the very essence of the processes that characterize the current state of relations between Russia and the collective West does not quite fit into this term. After the Munich Security Conference, which ended a few days ago, where the readiness of the leading Western countries to achieve victory over Russia was clearly stated, the urgent question arises of transforming the perception of the special military operation. It would be more accurate to talk about the new Patriotic War of the Russian people to defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity, since the Western opponents of the Russian Federation do not hide their plans to divide Russia into puppet formations, counting on the collapse of the country,” Vazagov said in a comment to the IA “Res”.

According to him, from this point of view, of course, the events in the Ukrainian direction are of particular importance not only for Russia, but also for its closest allies, including South Ossetia.

“South Ossetian society has been closely involved in the processes related to the special military operation from the very beginning. Hundreds of representatives of the Republic are at the forefront of hostilities, showing courage and selflessness. At the same time, we are also witnessing a general civic solidarity aimed at supporting the participants of the special military operation. This, in particular, is evidenced by regular fundraising campaigns to assist fighters from South Ossetia. Creative teams, initiative groups, political parties are involved in these processes, measures are also taken at the level of the country's leadership aimed at supporting military personnel and volunteers from South Ossetia, as well as members of their families,” said the head of the department.

Vazagov is sure that such an active involvement of the South Ossetian society is also explained by the fact that South Ossetia was next to the People's republics of Donbass from the very beginning of their struggle against the aggression of the Kyiv regime. He has added that initially it was the aid from volunteers from South Ossetia, who used their military experience gained in battles with the Georgian aggressors to defend the self-determination of the inhabitants of the DPR and the LPR. This was followed by the recognition of the independence of these republics by the official Tskhinval in June 2014.

“Recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics by South Ossetia and the establishment of diplomatic relations allowed Russia to create certain mechanisms through the South Ossetian allies for social support of the Donbass republics, ensuring their economic survival, etc.

Against the backdrop of the blockade by the Kyiv regime, which carried out systematic sabotage of the Minsk agreements with the sanction of Western countries, this was very important for the residents of the DPR and the LPR,” the representative of the Presidential Executive Office believes.

The recognition of the Donetsk and the Luhansk People's Republics by the Russian Federation, which took place exactly a year ago, on February 21, 2022, in South Ossetia, according to Yuri Vazagov, was received with full approval, as was their subsequent entry into the Russian Federation. He believes that the South Ossetian society perceived these actions of Moscow as a triumph of justice and recognition of the legitimacy of the aspirations of the inhabitants of the DPR and the LPR, who had been fighting for the right to speak their language, for the opportunity to preserve their national and cultural identity.
