"The calmest period": Egor Kochiev on the situation at the border since the previous meeting in the IPRM format

Negotiations in the framework of the Geneva discussions

During the existence of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM) format, the period from January 17 to the present day turned out to be practically the calmest, the head of the South Ossetian delegation Yegor Kochiev said at the end of the 111th meeting in the IPRM format.

According to him, during this period, not a single violation of the state border from the Georgian side was recorded, there was a minimum number of incidents related to the flights of unmanned aerial vehicles, there were no violations of the state border by representatives of the Georgian security agencies - police or other armed people.

“I hope that this trend will continue, and violations near the state border or related to violations of the border itself will decrease.

I would like to hope that not only weather conditions contributed to the decrease in the number of violators, but this may also be due to the active preventive work on the Georgian side,” he has noted.

Kochiev has added that Georgian citizens understand that by violating the state border, they fall under the legislation of the Republic of South Ossetia, which will entail certain sanctions - either a fine or a criminal case if a repeated violation is recorded. Knowing this, Georgian citizens try to violate less.

Uista. The position is unchanged

At the meeting, the South Ossetian party again raised the issue of removing the Georgian illegal checkpoint, set up on the territory of South Ossetia near the village of Uista (Tsnelis) several years ago.

As stressed by Kochiev, this issue is raised at every meeting.

“The South Ossetian party was concerned about the recent incident in the area, when the Georgian side used an armored personnel carrier to deliver food to the post. We received an exhaustive answer, it was noted that due to the lack of roads, they were forced to resort to this type of transport - a car with increased cross-country ability. At the same time, weapons were removed from the armored personnel carrier and it was used as an all-terrain vehicle,” said the head of the South Ossetian delegation.

So far, the Georgian party has not changed its mind on the issue of removing the illegal checkpoint from the territory of South Ossetia, but, as Yegor Kochiev assured, the South Ossetian party will continue to actively talk about this problem so that “in the end, the Georgian leadership will make an appropriate decision.”

The next IPRM meeting by prior arrangement will be held on 25 April.
