South Ossetia can fully rely on Russian support in key areas - Novak

South Ossetia is a strategic ally of Russia and ensuring its security and socio-economic stability meets the long-term interests of Russia, said Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak at the meeting with President of the Republic Alan Gagloev and thanked him for the opportunity to see the facilities being built as part of the investment program.

“Today we are witnessing the emergence of a multipolar and more equitable world order. This opens up the opportunities for the development of national production, trade and economic cooperation,” Novak said.

He has emphasized that for many years the countries have been going hand in hand, demonstrating the highest level of trust.

“We are grateful for the solidarity with Russia in the special military operation and support for new regions, including humanitarian aid and sending volunteers. This once again proves the highest level of spiritual closeness between peoples,” said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation.

He has continued that the Republic can fully rely on Russian support in key areas.

“First of all, we expect that we will coordinate on pressing issues. We proceed from the fact that the key to the successful development of the Republic is stability within and around it. We support the development of ties between the Republic and the regions of Russia. The potential for relations is enormous. On the international track, we continue to assist South Ossetia in expanding external contacts, we are ready to further support the initiative of our South Ossetian friends to increase interaction with the states close to us in spirit,” Novak said.

Alan Gagloev, during a meeting with members of the IGC in a narrow format, has noted, that four and a half years later, a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission is being held in Tskhinval.

“This is important for the South Ossetian side, since the Commission is an important tool for interaction and cooperation between our countries. Thanks to this mechanism, problems in the socio-economic and financial-budgetary spheres of the Republic are effectively solved, which helps to improve the well-being of citizens and achieve relative stability in the region. This is your first time in South Ossetia and I hope that you will be satisfied with the results of our joint work,” the President said.

He has added that a number of topical issues of bilateral cooperation will be discussed at the meeting.

“I would like the issues raised and proposed decisions to be made taking into account the objective situation in the Republic. I wish everyone successful work and achievement of concrete positive results,” Gagloev said.

Then the meeting continued without media representatives. Following the 22nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Socio- Economic Cooperation between Russia and South Ossetia, a protocol will be signed. During the meeting, it is planned to discuss the provision of financial assistance by the Russian Federation to South Ossetia in 2023 for the purpose of its socio-economic development, including the implementation of the agreements concluded within the framework of the development of the Treaty of Alliance and Integration, the state program “Socio-economic development of the Republic of South Ossetia”. Ossetia for 2022-2025,” the action plan to optimize the energy supply of the Republic of South Ossetia, previous investment programs, as well as customs interaction between the two countries.

The previous meeting of the Commission was held in Moscow on February 8, 2023.
