In Dzau district of South Ossetia, was honored the memory of the victims of the devastating 1991 earthquake.
As reported to IA “Res” by press Secretary of the district administration Larisa Beteeva, representatives of the Republic's leadership led by President Alan Gagloev, members of the district administration, and the public gathered at the funeral meeting at the Walk of Fame of the settlement.
“Our fellow countrymen in the village of Tsinagar were killed by the Georgian nationalists on April 28, 1991, and on the second day the elements decided to test our people’s endurance. The unthinkable happened: an entire village in Dzau district was underground as a result of the earthquake. We always have the same pain for everyone, and as a result of this tragedy, our people once again rallied and supported each other in such a difficult hour. Our North Ossetian brothers also provided us with great support during this period, coming to our aid and later providing humanitarian assistance,” the President said speaking at the rally.
After the laying flowers, those present honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence.
Employees of the district administration and the public also visited the village of Sinagur, where a memorial was erected in memory of the victims of the disaster.
The funeral event was also held at the boarding school. During the rally, children recited poems and spoke about the three boarding school students who had died as a result of the earthquake.
