A roundtable on the topic of the "South Ossetian statehood: main tasks and current challenges of the current stage" was held on Thursday at the Ir media center in Tskhinval.

The event was attended by the political and public figures who discussed geopolitical processes in the Caucasus region, risks and opportunities for South Ossetia, measures to intensify the Russian-South Ossetian cooperation in the sphere of foreign policy and socio-economic development of the Republic.

The role of state information policy in promoting the country's national agenda was also touched upon.

As noted by president of the media center Irina Gagloeva, South Ossetia has long defined its vector of direction - the Republic sees itself with Russia.

"Recently, in some political circles, designations have been flashing regarding our status. We have seen the speeches made by the official Georgian authorities and decided to hold this round table so that our socio-political forces could once again outline our position, which has not changed, because we are firm in our convictions.

Our choice has been made, and our ally is also clearly clear to us. We have allied relations with the Russian Federation and all our political transformations are possible only within the framework of these relations,” Gagloeva said.

According to her, the authorities of South Ossetia and the country’s Foreign Ministry have clearly stated that the Republic has its own status, which is not subject to any changes.

“Republic of South Ossetia is a sovereign, democratic state, and we will remain so. And if any changes occur, I repeat, they will be related only to the Russian Federation,” she has emphasized.

Gagloeva has added that all public and political forces should jointly defend the interests of South Ossetia on foreign policy issues.
