Security is the main challenge facing South Ossetia ahead of the parliamentary elections in Georgia — October 26, Irina Gagloeva, director of the Ir media center, Ex-Minister of Press and Mass Communications (2002-2009), a historian, has noted in a commentary to IA “Res”.

“In general, all normal people need peace,” Gagloeva believes. “But, unfortunately, there are political forces in Georgia that are not friends with peace,” They deny other nations the basic right to see their national future. And here, of course, security issues become the most important.”

According to Gagloeva, “there are enough problems in the Republic today, they need to be solved and they will be solved, but security is the most important thing now.”

"In addition to the difficult situation in Georgia itself, the geopolitical situation today is not in the best condition," Gagloeva has noted. "We see the attitude of the world community to the international agreements, documents, all sorts of conventions, and so on."

Gagloeva has emphasized that elections in Georgia should ideally be their internal affair.

"However, in the current reality, they are of interest; in the figurative expression of one of the Georgian politicians, the upcoming vote is, in a sense, a referendum between peace and war," Gagloeva saidd. "And we know that one of the core topics here remains the topic of "reintegration" of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. And, of course, in this regard, we are very worried and stressed about this."."

She has reminded that 25 political parties are participating in the elections in Georgia.

"But the political weather is made by two parties - the Georgian Dream, let's say, of a liberal persuasion, I think formally, but nevertheless... and the opposition party United National Movement," Gagloeva said. - In principle, they stand on different platforms, we will not go into these nuances, but on the issue of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, they have the same position, that they should be "returned."

Gagloeva has noted that today the above-mentioned parties are positioning different approaches to this issue.

"We know that the Georgian Dream declares the "restoration of territorial integrity" by peaceful means, which, by the way, does not seem to me a fact," Gagloeva has emphasized. - And the United National Movement, as we know, sees the solution to the issue only by force.

Of course, we can continue the analysis of the situation, which is very sad and sorrowful and far from any democratic values and principles, and so on... ".

The historian believes that even the warming of relations between Georgia and Russia is also very, very strained, which is confirmed by opinion polls, etc.
