The events dedicated to the Day of Courage and National Unity will be held in South Ossetia. The Republican commission for the preparation and holding of the national events told IA "Res" that the Republic's educational institutions would hold thematic lessons and extracurricular activities dedicated to this day on November 21-22.
"The rally will begin at 11:00 a.m.," the Commission has clarified.
Furthermore, a ceremony to lay the "Memory and Glory" garland at the memorial to the fallen defenders of the Fatherland at the "Defenders of South Ossetia" memorial complex will take place at 10:40 a.m. on November 23.
On November 23, 1989, unarmed residents of Tskhinval stopped the nationalists, marking a turning point in the formation of the South Ossetian statehood and the strengthening of national identity. This heroic act laid the foundation for the national liberation movement that enabled South Ossetia to endure the fight against aggression and blockade. Russia's recognition of South Ossetia's independence in 2008 was the culmination of the years of struggle.
