Eduard Kokoity announced that “The Republic of South Ossetia is ready to carry out the referendum and the presidential elections. South Ossetia is ready to achieve by peaceful and civilized means recognition of its Independence. For those who do not accept declaration of will of the people of South Ossetia, who try to impose on the people of South Ossetia double standards, I underline that South Ossetia has more political and legal bases for recognition than Kosovo and Montenegro, considering those laws that were existing during Soviet Union. We are again demonstrating to the International Community, despite the fact that we are being discredited by Georgia, that we are ready to achieve independence by peaceful means.
The referendum will show to the International Community the real picture of the situation in our society. Georgia is telling the West that it is only Kokoity and his entourage that are pressing towards independence. Referendum is our answer to people that do not know the actual state of affairs. In 1992 the most of the young people were 2-3 years old, did not have a chance to declare their opinion about the Independence.
We will show that people of the RSO cannot be subdued, forced to turn down their goal, their historic justice. We are sure that the results of the referendum and presidential elections will be stunning”.
