President of the Russian Federation met in Vladikavkaz with a candidate for President of South Ossetia, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov.
As reported to IA "Res" at the presidential press service and the government of South Ossetia, the meeting was held during the visit of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to the capital of North Ossetia - Alania. President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has met in Vladikavkaz with the officers of the Southern Military Region and the public representatives.
The Fifty-Eighth Army – one of the largest military units in the south of Russia - was established in June 1995 to provide security in the North Caucasus region and protect the southern borders of the country. In 1995-1996 its soldiers were fighting with the armed gangs in Chechnya, in August 1999 they were repulsing the invasion of Dagestan. It was the 58th Army subdivisions that came to rescue South Ossetia and defeated the Georgian troops in August 2008.
