The President of the Moldovan Republic of Transnistria Yevgeny Shevchuk has paid an official visit to the Republic of South Ossetia. He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Moldovan Republic of Transnistria Nina Shtanski. In Tskhinval the head of the Moldovan Republic of Transnistria has been received by South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov.
He welcomed the guests, noting the symbolism of the visit on the eve of the fifth anniversary of Russia's recognition of the independence of South Ossetia.
"This is a long-awaited meeting; we have been exchanging greetings and relevant telegrams on the important days, closely monitoring the processes taking place in our countries. I want to thank you for your visit to South Ossetia on such a significant day. This is a landmark date in our history - since August 2008 the life of the South Ossetian people has changed for the better. Historical justice is done ", - said Tibilov.
According to him, the people of South Ossetia and Transnistria in its current history have a lot of similarities.
"South Ossetia is now the recognized state, and I sincerely wish Transnistria to attain the recognition of its sovereignty," - said the President of South Ossetia.
He has expressed the hope that the country will continue to follow the path of development of bilateral relations and will not change the chosen course.
"Your visit today is another evidence that there are friendly and brotherly relations between our two countries, which will be actively developed in the future", - assured the head of state.
In turn, Yevgeny Shevchuk thanked Leonid Tibilov for the warm welcome and congratulated the Ossetian people on the upcoming holiday - the recognition of the fifth anniversary of the state independence of South Ossetia.
"We have been closely watching the processes in South Ossetia, empathizing with its people, who had to endure a lot. I am sure that in the future your country will reach prosperity and progress", - said Shevchuk.
According to him, his first visit to South Ossetia is a step towards strengthening bilateral relations.
"I hope that we will actively strengthen our relations in all spheres, developing dynamically, applying all efforts to improve the living standards of our people," - said the head of the Moldovan Republic of Transnistria.
He has stressed that peace is guaranteed in South Ossetia that is very important for the economic development of the Republic.
"The economy will grow when there are peace and tranquility in the country. It is easy to destroy the economy, and it is difficult to recover it in the short term. But I am confident that the strong spirit of the Ossetian people will promote to overcome all the difficulties, "- said Yevgeny Shevchuk.
Leonid Tibilov has also told the guests about the work done in the Republic after he took office (April 2012), concerning the economic recovery and development, as well as the current purposes pursued by South Ossetia.
He has reminded that in 1994 between South Ossetia and Transnistria was signed the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, noting that it was the first step in the development of bilateral relations.
"We intend to more actively address the implementation of all points of this important document," - said the president.
Yevgeny Shevchuk has noted that things have changed a lot since that time, have been developed new realities that require the revision and improvement of certain clauses of the contract.
Leonid Tibilov offered to time the signing of the updated document to the 20th anniversary of its conclusion, which will be marked in 2014.
During the meeting President Yevgeny Shevchuk was awarded the Order of Honor and Nina Shtanski - the Order of Friendship. The sides also exchanged gifts. The head of the Moldovan Republic of Transnistria presented Leonid Tibilov with a collection of memorable coins of Transnistria and a picture of the Transnistria Cathedral. Yevgeny Shevchuk has also transferred money to the boarding school in Tskhinval.
Leonid Tibilov also presented the guests with memorable coins of South Ossetia issued by the fifth anniversary of the recognition of the Republic.
