The main event of 2020 is a mournful date - the centenary of the Ossetian people’s genocide, - said the head of the South Ossetian information agency Maria Kotaeva at a briefing in Tskhinval.
According to her, all forces and resources will be directed to the implementation of events dedicated to this significant date in the history of Ossetia.
“The Commission for the Memorialization of the Genocide committed against South Ossetians by the Georgian Democratic Republic in 1920 is actively working. The film will be shot by one of the Russian television campaigns, and at this stage preparations are already underway. The work will be difficult, given the fact that photo and video frames of those events are practically not preserved, there is little information in the archives. Therefore, developers will have to create a film - reconstruction,” said Maria Kotaeva.
She has added that by the centenary of the genocide, it is planned to prepare and publish books and scientific works in many languages, which will detail the events of those years. The Chairman of the State Committee appealed to readers and viewers to provide all the information and materials they have about the genocide of the Ossetian people.
“As part of the preparatory measures, it was proposed to organize a search for relatives of 13 communards who became a symbol of the Ossetian genocide. Perhaps, thanks to the stories of relatives, we will be able to restore the real picture of the events. It is also planned to organize a press tour to North Ossetia, to the village of Nogir, where refugees of the 1920s settled down compactly,” Kotaeva emphasized.
We are talking about the genocide of 1920, the main events of which unfolded precisely in June, starting on the 12th, when the massive offensive of the Georgian national guard on Tskhinval began. Since June 17, there was widespread burning of villages, and on June 20, an indicative execution of 13 Ossetian communards was carried out. In fact, then, under the leadership of Noah Jordania, Georgia managed to implement the Open Field plan, which Zviad Gamsakhurdia, Eduard Shevarnadze and Mikheil Saakashvili tried unsuccessfully to repeat.
