The development of a document on the non-use of force is one of the key issues for the participants in the Geneva discussions; - the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar told the South Ossetian media.
The briefing took place after the meeting in Tskhinval of the OSCE, the UN and the EU co-chairs of discussions with their South Ossetian colleagues.
“The issue of non-use of force is one of the key issues for all participants. It is very important for both South Ossetia and the Georgian government to reaffirm this commitment on the part of Russia. This is a key moment for the work of the Geneva discussions,” said Toivo Klaar.
The EU Special Representative said that today they had discussed all the issues on the agenda of the upcoming round in Geneva.
“We discussed the impressions of the last round and shared our views on how to move forward. And we, as co-chairs, were pleased to hear the commitment of the parties to the process. We know that the most important activity that the Geneva process is aimed at is the implementation of the six-point agreement. We understand how important the implementation of this agreement is here in Tskhinval, including with regard to the humanitarian issue,” Klaar has stressed.
He has noted that for the co-chairs, the most important thing is that there is an understanding of all participants that the Geneva process is the most important factor for maintaining peace and stability.
The head of the South Ossetian delegation to the Geneva discussions, State Advisor to the President Konstantin Kochiev has noted that today the Geneva discussions are no longer a frozen process.
“We continue our work in the Geneva format. Today's meeting took place following the round of Geneva discussions held in early October, which was considered as an interim, as it was the resumption of work after a long break. Today, the Geneva discussions are no longer a frozen process. It will develop. We have all the important issues on the agenda on the table, including the work on the document on the non-use of force, on the missing. That is, the whole range of issues that the South Ossetian side considers important,” he has stressed.
Kochiev has added that the next round of the Geneva discussions will most likely take place next year.
