Members of the Apollo student club and a group of guys who were taken hostage during the terrorist attack at the Beslan School No. 1 20 years ago hiked to the Kel Plateau - to the lake dedicated to the children killed in Beslan.

As reported to the "Res” news agency by the head of Apollo, Olesya Kadzhaeva, the ascent to the Mady Tsassyg (Mother's Tear) Lake has become a tradition.

"The meaning of this ascent was so important that no one paid much attention to the cloudy weather. Of these young guys – the former hostages of the Beslan tragedy, three had already taken part in the ascent last year, the rest were climbing for the first time. We agreed to go up to the lake together every year. And we have already made some plans for the future,” Kadzhaeva said.

In 2019, the nameless lake on the Kel Plateau in South Ossetia was named “Mady Tsassyg” in memory of the victims of the Beslan tragedy. The idea to give the lake this name was born back in 2005, when the mothers of Beslan came to the Republic for rehabilitation.

On September 1, 2004, more than 30 terrorists seized school No. 1 in Beslan during a festive line-up. For three days, 1,128 hostages were being held in the school gym without water and food. On September 3, explosions rang out at the school, and hostages began to flee from the windows and a brake in the wall of the gym. The tragedy claimed the lives of 334 people, 186 of whom were children.
