Since the last meeting within the framework of the IPRM, 6 cases of violation of the state border of South Ossetia have been recorded. This was reported to the media following the 121st meeting within the format of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM) by Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of President of the Republic of South Ossetia for Post-Conflict Settlement, the head of the South Ossetian delegation at the meetings Egor Kochiev.

“Of these six violations, a criminal case was opened for one fact and submitted to court. Various measures of influence were applied for four cases - expulsion both without and with payment of fines. One fact of violation of the state border occurred literally recently. Hunters lost their way and crossed the state border of South Ossetia. Currently, an investigation is underway on this fact and the appropriate decision will be made,” he said.
According to Kochiev, sometimes violations occur accidentally, when a person does not know where the state border is. In such cases, the so-called humanitarian approach is applied - if the violation was the first time, the citizen is expelled without penalties and criminal prosecution.

"I would like to note that the Georgian party has strengthened security measures and methods of informing the population that the state border cannot be violated, since otherwise they will be detained and a criminal case may be initiated," the Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative has noted.

He added that thanks to these actions, the number of violations had decreased. The head of the delegation has also added that in the next two months, at least 4 violators of the state border, whose term of detention in custody is ending, will be expelled from the territory of the Republic.
