The President of the Republic of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity during his meeting with the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev expressed his gratitude for recognition of South Ossetia. “We are happy to welcome you in South Ossetia. The people of the Republic of South Ossetia is grateful for the recognition of our state. Today, there is a big holiday in South Ossetia”, stated Eduard Kokoity.
In return, the President of Russia expressed his gratitude for being invited to visit South Ossetia. “Thank you very much for your invitation to visit the new state – South Ossetia, which emerged owing to difficult, dramatic events through which the Russian people offered their support to South Ossetia. I do believe that today’s short, first working visit by the President of the Russian Federation will set the ground for various contacts and friendly relations”, stated the Russian President.
“Our states both have a glorious past and solid legal basis. I mean the negotiations being held with the Russian Federation. We have a wide range of projects aimed at rehabilitation of economy in South Ossetia and the social sector here. We will definitely implement many activities. You will show us what is needed. We have the necessity to maintain our cooperation in defense sphere. We have a corresponding treaty. Therefore I think that throughout our today’s discussions we will focus on development of our relations. Thank you for your invitation”, said Dmitry Medvedev.
After the meeting, the Russian President went to greet the city residents who gathered at the central square.

The Presidents of the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia Dmitry Medvedev and Eduard Kokoity accompanied by the Minister of Defense of the RF Anatoly Serdyukov and the RSO Minister of Defense Yury Tanaev visited the RF Defense Ministry Forth Military Base located in Tskhinval. The Chief of the North Caucasus Command Sergey Makarov reported to the RF President on the situation at the Base and the tasks implemented by the Base troops.
The Chief Commander noted that the Staff is fully manned. Then majority of officers have a combat experience obtained in conflict regions. “Currently, this Base is ready to fulfill all its tasks”, underlined Makarov.
Dmitry Medvedev and Eduard Kokoity saw the armored vehicles park, the barracks and the mess.
The visit of the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev to South Ossetia has finished.

The President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev arrived South Ossetia. Upon arrival in Tskhinval, he was welcomed by the RSO President Eduard Kokoity, members of the South Ossetian Governments. Inhabitants of Tskhinval gathered at the central square of the city to greet the Russian President with prolonged applause.
A meeting between the two Presidents was held afterwards.

On 13 July 2009, the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev was paying a visit to South Ossetia. He arrived with his first working visit in Tskhinval upon the invitation of the RSO President Eduard Kokoity.
A meeting between the RF President Dmitry Medvedev and RSO President Eduard Kokoity was held. During the meeting which was held in friendly and constructive atmosphere, issues related to further development of relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia, reconstruction of South Ossetia after the armed aggression of Georgia and perspectives for inter-governmental cooperation in various sectors were discussed.

According ot him, the two presidents had discussed a wide range of issues. “Dmitry Anatolievich showed his understanding and support to the actions taken by the leadership of South Ossetia with the fact that the reconstruction of private housing is a top priority for us. We expect signing about 30 project agreements with the Russian Federation. All these processes with reconstruction of South Ossetia will be intensified and many problems which we encountered will be settled more rapidly. I woul like to stress that there is full mutual understanding and support”, said the RSO President.

Russia saved the people of South Ossetia from extermination during Georgia’s aggression in August 2008. Russia recognized the Republic of South Ossetia, established diplomatic relations, concluded a treaty of friendship and cooperation and is providing assistance in social and economic revival and maintenance of security after the 20 years of permanent aggression of Georgia against South Ossetia. The first working visit of the Russian Federation President Dmitry Medvedev to the Republic of South Ossetia speaks for the fact that Russia will further on develop the friendly relations with our young state, implement joint projects in various sectors to the benefit of the people and to support peace in the Caucasus.

The visit of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev to the Republic of South Ossetia is an important event not only for South Ossetia, but for the world policy. This is a sign of deep-rooted, well-thought and democratic actions. This is the real and constructive action by the Super Power targeted exclusively at peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
The visit of Dmitry Medvedev once again proved the positive role of Russia in the Caucasus policy.
Concrete and realistic approach in Russia’s strategy is obvious.
The visit of Dmitry Medvedev was long awaited. South Ossetia has a special attitude towards Russia, a respect based on centuries old links.
During the visit, the sides once again confirmed the strategy for further cooperation in accordance with the international and legal documents signed between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation.
