The issue of clarifying the fate of the residents of South Ossetia, listed to be missing since 2008, is important and relevant, and is raised at every round of the Geneva discussions, said the Presidential Envoy Murat Dzhioev.

According to Dzhioev, the 52nd round of the Geneva discussions was no exception, the South Ossetian party once again reminded the participants of the talks about the three reports of the Serbian independent expert Dusan Ignjatovic, who had been invited by the OSCE.

“Finding out their fate is not only a humanitarian goal, but also an act of humanity, since the mothers of the missing guys have every right to know the information about their children. We are confident that Georgia has information about the fate of the young people who disappeared after the August 2008 war, and if they gave us the information, this step would be a small impetus for the residents of South Ossetia to trust Georgia,” he said.

Dzhioev has noted that the OSCE representatives assured them that the work on this issue would continue. “We will be monitoring the situation and make sure that the relatives of young people, one of whom was not even 16 years old, learn about their fate. And as we were informed by representatives of the OSCE, at the meeting with the official circles of Georgia and with the Prosecutor General of this country, they raised the issue, and seemed to have received assurances that it would be considered,” the Plenipotentiary explained.

At each meeting of the Geneva Discussions and the IPRM, the South Ossetian party always raises the issue of the missing, and such an instruction was given to them by the country's leadership.
