The statement by the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze that the country intends to return Abkhazia and South Ossetia to its composition by 2030 is connected with the desire to demonstrate its patriotism, as well as to justify itself to the West. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru by the first Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Konstantin Zatulin.

“I don’t know what inspired the Prime Minister of Georgia, other than the desire to demonstrate his patriotism. How, by 2030, he will return Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which are developing as the independent states, are under the protection of Russia and are recognized in this capacity, I don’t really understand. “I have the impression that in this way the Prime Minister of Georgia would like to once again declare himself as a politician who will in no way yield to the opposition in his claims to join the European Union or the return of Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” Zatulin said.

The law on foreign agents, which caused protests in Georgia, plays a big role here, the politician believes.

“This is most likely caused by the internal political struggle that has intensified in Georgia in connection with the adoption of the law on foreign agents. And the desire of the Georgian authorities, despite the fact that they supported this law contrary to the opinion of the West, still shows that they are in fact not under Russian influence. We set ourselves goals that are in conflict with Russia, and you can be calm about our focus on certain priorities in our policy that run counter to the interests of Russia. He is justifying himself to the internal opposition and to the West,” the deputy has noted.

Irakli Kobakhidze announced on the social network X the plans to return Abkhazia and South Ossetia in 2030, as well as to join the European Union,.

“Our Georgian dream is to live in the united and strong Georgia by 2030 together with our Abkhaz and Ossetian brothers and sisters. The united and strong Georgia should become a full member of the European family in 2030,” he has written.
