The leadership of South Ossetia, headed by President Alan Gagloev, laid wreaths and flowers at the places of the deaths of the Republic's defenders and civilians in August 2008.
The ceremony was also attended by the Russian Embassy in the Republic, representatives of the Parliament, law enforcement agencies, ministries, departments, the Mothers of Beslan, and others.
The ceremony began at the destroyed barracks of the Russian peacekeeping battalion, which was the first to take the aggressor's blow.
Then the participants of the laying ceremony honored the memory of the Hero of Ossetia Oleg Galavanov - a scout who died in battle and was posthumously awarded the highest state award "Uatsamonga" and the Hero of Russia Denis Vetchinov - a major who saved a group of Russian journalists in battle and was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia.
Then they honored the memory of the OMON officers, perished in the battle with the Georgian aggressor in the village of Tbet, among them: Alan Kabisov, Valery Dzakhoev, Soslan Maldzigov, Tamaz Pliev, Alan Sanakoev and Gayoz Bichenov.
Flowers were also laid at the busts of the employees of the Defense Ministry Amiran Bagaev (Bagira) and Azamat Dzhioev (Panther) – perished in battle and were posthumously awarded the highest military award "Uatsamongae". They showed courage and heroism, stopping the Georgian column on the western approaches to Tskhinval.
Flower-laying ceremony also took place at the "Symbol of Sorrow" Monument in the "Museum of Burnt Souls" in the village of Tbet. Participants in the laying ceremony also honored the memory of Vilen Chibirov, Viktor Tadtaev and Vladislav Gazzaev. They died heroically during the fighting, trying to help the hostages taken by the Georgians near School No. 12.
