Russian senators will take part in monitoring the second round of the presidential elections in South Ossetia, the press service of the Federation Council said on Thursday.

The voting will take place on May 8th.

"The delegation will be headed by Sergei Tsekov, member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs. The observers have also included Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Elena Bibikova and member of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Crym Kazanokov," the message says.

"The number of voters who took part in the voting amounted to 29,057 people, which is 73.97 percent of the total number of voters included in the lists at the end of voting," the final protocol reads.

The CEC of South Ossetia will set the date of the second round of the presidential elections at the meeting on Thursday, April 14.

“Tomorrow there will be a meeting, we have several proposals that we will consider,” the CEC head Emilia Gagieva told the IA “Res”.

Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko instructed her Deputy Konstantin Kosachev to prepare an order on sending a delegation of senators to monitor the second round of the presidential elections in South Ossetia.

"I proceed from the fact that you will continue this observation work in the second round. I ask Konstantin Iosifovich Kosachev to prepare the appropriate order," Matviyenko said, addressing her colleagues at the plenary meeting on Wednesday, TASS reported.
