Russian peacekeeping operation in South Ossetia became a unique experience - Sergei Shoigu

The first peacekeeping operation of the Russian Federation, which began on July 14, 1992 in South Ossetia, was carried out in one breath and became an important work for the country, said Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.

"This first peacekeeping operation was done in one breath, very quickly," the Minister said at the event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the peacekeeping operation to resolve the Georgian-Ossetian conflict.

Alan Gagloev awarded Sergei Shoigu with the Order of "Uatsamonga"

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was awarded the highest state award of the Republic of South Ossetia - the Order of Uatsamonga.

This was announced by President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev at the briefing at the location of the 4th Russian base in Tskhinval.

The head of state spoke about the fact that a teleconference had taken place with the Russian side, dedicated to the holiday date - Peacekeeper's Day.

Peacekeeping forces were carrying out their tasks in rather difficult conditions, - Murat Dzhioev

On July 14, 1992, people of South Ossetia greeted the peacekeepers with the hope that, finally, peace had come to the long-suffering land of South Ossetia, Murat Dzhioev, Plenipotentiary of the President of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement, said during a video message at the round table in Tskhinval.

“And, indeed, the peacekeepers brought peace to the land of South Ossetia,” he said.

According to him, the trilateral peacekeeping forces were formed within the framework of the Sochi agreements.

The memory of the fallen peacekeepers was honored in South Ossetia

In the capital of South Ossetia, flowers and wreaths were laid at the walls of the barracks of the peacekeeping battalion destroyed in 2008 and a memorial stele along Peacekeepers Street.

The leadership of the Republic led by President Alan Gagloev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, representatives of the government and parliament, representatives of ministries and departments, and the public of the Republic came to honor the memory of the fallen peacekeepers.
