The CEC of South Ossetia unanimously supported the initiative to join South Ossetia to Russia, the incumbent president of the Republic of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov wrote on his telegram channel.

“The documents have been submitted to the court. We are waiting for the decision of the court and very soon our big dream will come true. Russia and South Ossetia are connected by a common history. It's not just a partnership or friendship. Rather, it is a trusting relationship between two brothers, where the older brother will always understand and support, in word and deed, and the younger brother will honor and help the older one. At the same time, fully aware of the self-sufficiency and equality of the rights of everyone.

It's time to unite once and for all. Become stronger in this now official alliance. South Ossetia and Russia will be together. This is the beginning of a new big story. Be kind!” Anatoly Bibilov said.

On March 30, Bibilov announced that South Ossetia would take legal steps to join the Russian Federation.

Signature lists in support of holding a referendum in South Ossetia on joining the Russian Federation on May 6 were received by the CEC of the Republic.

Earlier, Anatoly Bibilov said that the date of the referendum would be determined after the decision of the Supreme Court. Bibilov expressed confidence that the people of South Ossetia would make an absolutely correct decision and the historical desire of the South Ossetian people to become part of Russia and unite with their brothers in North Ossetia is being realized.

On Friday, the Central Election Commission of South Ossetia sent a conclusion on the issue of holding a referendum to the president, parliament and the initiative group. The decision was published on the official website of the CEC.

The Central Election Commission of the Republic established the conformity of the documents and materials submitted by the initiative group with the requirements of the legislation on the referendum.

The Supreme Court of the Republic, to which the documents on the referendum were sent by the current head of state, checks them in accordance with the law within 14 days and sends its decision to the president.

The decision of the Supreme Court is also subject to publication in the state media. If the court sends a conclusion to the president that the corresponding package of documents meets the requirements of the law, then the head of state is obliged to call a referendum no later than ten days from the date of receipt of the decision of the Supreme Court.

The President is obliged to issue an appropriate decree on holding a referendum indicating the date of its holding. The referendum is scheduled for any day off within a period of two to three months.
