The event dedicated to the 17th anniversary of the Georgian aggression against people of South Ossetia was held in Tiraspol, the Novosti Pridnestrovya news agency reports.

The memory of the defenders and civilians perished in August 2008 was honored near the official representative office of South Ossetia in Tiraspol.

The event was attended by the head of the official representative office of the RSO in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vitaly Yankovsky.

Cooperation between Russia and South Ossetia in the defense, scientific, economic, cultural and educational spheres, as well as the deployment of units of the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of the Republic is a guarantor of lasting peace and stability for the country. This opinion was expressed in the interview with TASS by Ambassador of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Russian Federation Znaur Gassiev.

A ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths at the placrs of the Republic's defenders' deaths during the Georgian aggression in August 2008 was held in South Ossetia.

The event was attended by the Republic's leadership headed by President Alan Gagloev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, representatives of the ministries, departments and law enforcement agencies, as well as the public.

The laying of flowers began at the shelled barracks of the Russian peacekeepers.

In August 2008, the world community was silently watching the destruction of the Ossetian people and the execution of peacekeepers, and only decisive actions by Russia prevented the bloody plan of the Saakashvili regime and its policy of state terrorism.

South Ossetia paid last tributes to Zaur Bestaev ("Besta"), a fighter of the separate sabotage and reconnaissance detachment "Alania", who had heroically died in the line of duty during the special military operation.

The funeral ceremony brought together many people wishing to pay tribute to the memory of the brave warrior.

Tskhinval paid last tributes to Marat "Iron" Gubiev, perished while performing combat missions in the special military operation zone.

During the funeral rally, Marat's fellow soldiers noted his exceptional friendliness and selflessness.

The Georgian plans for a blitzkrieg in August 2008 were shattered by the fortitude and courage of the defense forces of South Ossetia and Russian peacekeepers. The decisive and timely actions of the Russian Federation to force the aggressor to peace played a key role in saving the people of South Ossetia from complete destruction, the statement of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on the occasion of the 08.08.08 war anniversary.

The memory of those killed as a result of Georgia's armed aggression against South Ossetia will be honored in Tskhinval.

A photo exhibition "08.08.08 - 08.08.25" will be opened on the 17th anniversary.

A mourning requiem campaign will be held on the evening of August 7 at 22:00 at the memorial complex "To the Defenders of South Ossetia" on Makharbek Tuganov Street in Tskhinval. Representatives of the public, residents of Tskhinval, politicians, and the Republic's leadership will gather here.
