The United Nations continues to advocate "double standards" year after year, leveling its own fundamental principles concerning the rights of peoples, instead of adopting effective methods to strengthen confidence-building measures, providing victims of the Georgian aggression with the opportunity to voice their position from the UN rostrum, assisting in building mutually beneficial equal approaches and progress in the issue of security guarantees for South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

The South Ossetian Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev has received the Republic's representative in Austria, Patrick Poppel, who is in Tskhinval on a working visit, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reports.

"During the meeting, issues of expanding cooperation and strengthening international ties have been discussed. Patrick Poppel told about his activities to convey objective information about the history and culture of the Republic to the world community," the press service has noted.

The preliminary meetings of the Geneva Discussions Co-Chairs are important. The presence of all participants at the talks demonstrates their commitment to the process, the OSCE Co-Chair Christophe Späth said during the press conference.

"During the preliminary meetings, it is important to find out the priority topics for the participants in the discussions. We are all grateful that we had a very detailed discussion today," he has noted.

Christophe Späth has stressed that the positions of the parties differ greatly.

Following the 63rd round of the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia, encouraging signals emerged regarding the possibility of developing and signing the agreement on the non-use of force. This was stated in Tskhinval on Tuesday by the head of the South Ossetian delegation, State Advisor to President Konstantin Kochiev, at the meeting with the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions.

He also pointed to positive changes in the perception of the events of 2008 in Georgia.

The Embassy of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to the victims of the Beslan tragedy in Moscow, the press service of the diplomatic department reports.

“A wreath was laid at the memorial on the square in front of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kulishki (Alan courtyard) on behalf of people of South Ossetia,” the statement of the press service reads.

A cache of ammunition was found in the village of Ch'ekh in Tskhinval district of South Ossetia, the press service of Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.

"The cache contained: 22 pieces of 7.62 caliber ammunition; an F-1 grenade with a fuse; a shot from a barrel grenade launcher and a 12-gauge cartridge," the press service has noted.

The ammunition was seized for further disposal.

The issue of signing a memorandum of cooperation was discussed at the meeting between the Chairman of the Committee on Youth Policy and Sports of South Ossetia Soslan Gassiev and Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Youth and Sports of Abkhazia Beslan Karchava.

The Abkhaz party initiated the signing of the document.

The memorandum is intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation and friendly relations between the parties, contributing to achievement of common goals in the development of sports and youth policy in the territories of both republics.

On the International Children's Day, the Moscow Ossetian Community will organize the event in memory of the victims of the Beslan tragedy, the organization's press service reports.

"On June 1, at 12:00, a ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to the victims of the Beslan tragedy will take place on the square in front of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kulishki (Alanskoye Podvorye)," the press service has noted.
